Restricted A Licence 35 kW: Chinese Motorcycles Compatible in Switzerland (2026)

The restricted A licence is the top category for young Swiss riders from age 18. Since 2021, it has been a mandatory step before obtaining the unrestricted A licence after 2 years of practice. Good news: Chinese brands offer a varied and affordable range in this segment. Here are the models compatible with the restricted A licence, their verified Swiss prices, and the official importers.

The restricted A licence 35 kW: what Swiss regulations say

In Switzerland, the restricted A licence authorises riding motorcycles with a power output not exceeding 35 kW, with a maximum power-to-weight ratio of 0.20 kW/kg (Art. 15 para. 2 OAC — RS 741.51). It is accessible from age 18, according to the indicative requirements of admin.ch.

Since 1 January 2021, direct access to the unrestricted A licence (previously possible from age 25) has been abolished. The A licence is now obtained after 2 years of flawless practice in the restricted A category. The restricted A licence has therefore become the normal route for any new rider.

For used or imported motorcycles, it is essential to verify that the model is approved for 35 kW or can be restricted. Official Swiss importers clearly indicate the licence category on each model sheet.

Chinese motorcycles compatible with the restricted A licence

Several Chinese brands offer models eligible for the restricted A licence, with competitive prices. These include the CFMoto 450NK (34.5 kW, CHF 5,290), the Zontes 350 R (29 kW, CHF 5,390), the Zontes 350 GK (29 kW, CHF 5,490), the Kove 450 Rally (31 kW, CHF 8,990), the Kove 500X (32 kW, CHF 7,390), the QJ Motor SRT 450 RX (35 kW, 198 kg fully fuelled, CHF 6,490), the QJ Motor SRV 600 V2 (V-twin cruiser, 35 kW version, 196 kg, CHF 6,690), the Kove 500F (31.5 kW, 173 kg dry, CHF 5,990), the Kove NK 321R (30.5 kW for 149 kg dry, CHF 4,990 — check the power-to-weight ratio on its homologation sheet) and the Voge 625R Naked (35 kW, CHF 6,690).

These models are available from official Swiss importers: Motohub Swiss for CFMoto, Mosport SA for Voge, Zontes and Kove, Fun-Car (Bevaix) for QJ Motor. The prices indicated are those recorded on the websites of the importers or official dealers in 2026.

Other models from Chinese brands could be compatible, but we only list them if their power is verified and they are marketed in Switzerland through an official channel. If in doubt, consult the model sheet or contact the importer.

Prices and availability in Switzerland

Prices for Chinese motorcycles compatible with the restricted A licence start at CHF 4,990 for the Kove NK 321R and go up to CHF 8,990 for the Kove 450 Rally. The CFMoto 450NK is CHF 5,290, the Kove 500F CHF 5,990, the Zontes 350 R CHF 5,390, the Zontes 350 GK CHF 5,490, the Kove 500X CHF 7,390, the QJ Motor SRT 450 RX CHF 6,490, the QJ Motor SRV 600 V2 CHF 6,690 and the Voge 625R Naked CHF 6,690.

These prices are significantly lower than those of established brands for equivalent performance. They are explained in particular by the abolition of industrial customs duties in Switzerland since 1 January 2024: only VAT of 8.1% applies on import.

Availability varies by importer and stock. It is recommended to check with the official network (Motohub Swiss, Mosport SA, Fun-Car, etc.) before travelling.

How to choose your Chinese restricted A motorcycle?

The choice depends on use: for the city and daily commutes, a roadster like the CFMoto 450NK or the Zontes 350 R is agile and sufficient. For rides and touring, the Kove 500X or the Voge 625R offer more comfort. For mixed road/trail use, the Kove 450 Rally is a versatile option, as is the QJ Motor SRT 450 RX (21-inch front wheel, CHF 6,490).

Always check the exact power and the weight/power ratio: the limit of 0.20 kW/kg can exclude some models even though they are under 35 kW. The technical sheets of Swiss importers mention this data.

Also consider the dealer network and parts availability. Chinese brands now have official importers in Switzerland, which facilitates servicing and warranty.

Moving from restricted A to unrestricted A: which Chinese motorcycles next?

After 2 years of restricted A licence, you can move up to the unrestricted A licence. The Chinese offer is also rich in this category: CFMoto 675SR-R (66 kW, CHF 7,690), CFMoto 800MT Sport (67 kW, CHF 8,690), CFMoto 1000MT-X (83 kW, CHF 9,990), Voge 800DS Rally (70 kW, CHF 8,990), Voge 900DSX (70 kW, CHF 9,990), Zontes 703 RR (70 kW, CHF 8,990), QJ Motor SRT 700 SX (51.5 kW, CHF 8,290) and QJ Motor SRK 800 RR (70 kW, CHF 9,290).

These models are all eligible for the unrestricted A licence and available from Swiss importers. They allow you to move up to a larger displacement without breaking the bank.

Our SinoRide comparator lists all these models with their licence category, their Swiss price and a direct link to the importer for a test ride or purchase.
